Sea & nature
Follow the light. Find your cove.
The change is part of the appeal: a morning among Roman stones, an afternoon among pines and pale coastal rock. Pula’s sea is not one continuous sandy beach. Choose your stretch of shore by access, shade and the sort of day you actually enjoy.
At a glance
For a first coastal day, choose one bathing area and one walk; do not try to collect the whole peninsula.
Ambrela and Verudela
Ambrela is a pebble beach on the Verudela peninsula. It is a useful starting point for travellers who prefer a recognisable bathing place to an improvised descent over rocks. Nearby trees offer some shade, but do not assume a shaded spot will be available. Check current facilities and access, especially when travelling with small children or anyone needing adapted beach infrastructure.
The right beach is the one that fits your day.
Gortanova and the coastal walk
Gortanova uvala is a pebble cove along Lungomare. The coastal promenade connects the Valkane and Valsaline areas, with rocky shoreline and pine-covered stretches between them. Treat the walk and a swim as complementary pleasures rather than racing between beaches. Choose a turn-around point that leaves energy for the return, and carry your own drinking water.

Let conditions choose the plan
A beautiful photograph says little about wind, waves or the ease of entering the water on the day. Look at local conditions and posted instructions; avoid exposed rocks or sea caves when conditions are unsuitable. Take appropriate footwear for the terrain. For specific access needs, verify the complete journey from parking or bus stop to the water, not only a general accessibility label.
Before you go
Are Pula’s beaches mainly sandy?
Many of the beaches covered here are pebble coves or rocky shores. Check the individual beach rather than expecting a long sandy waterfront.
Which beach is best for everyone?
There is no universal winner. Compare entry into the sea, shade, transport, facilities and the needs of your group.
